Acadia Community Association LOGO Design Contest Guidelines

Calling all students, artists, graphic designers, and inspired community members of Acadia!

The Acadia Community Association (ACA) is looking for a new visual identity and needs your help. We are seeking talents from the Acadia community who can design a creative, innovative, representative and professional logo for us to use on the ACA website, social media sites, business cards, letterhead, posters, souvenir trinkets and gifts, or anywhere else the ACA chooses. Please read below for more details regarding logo design, contest rules and submission requirements.

Eligibility

The contest is open only to individuals. The contest is not open to companies, educational institutions, organizations, etc.

Contestants are permitted to work in groups; however, only one (1) prize will be awarded regardless of group size.

How to Enter

1. The contest is open from 12:01 am May 2nd, 2023 Mountain Standard Time and closes at 11:59 pm July 15th 2023. Late submissions will not be considered. Finalists will be announced on our ACA website, social media accounts and by direct contact to the finalist by email or phone on August 15th, 2023.  The winning design will be voted by ACA membership at our AGM in September and announced on our ACA website, social media accounts, and by direct contact to the winner by email or phone. All digital entries must be submitted by email directly to branding@acadiaca.com for consideration and review as an official entry of the contest. Digital entries may be submitted as a scalable vector graphic in PSD or AI format OR as a JPG/JPEG or PNG file.  Hard-copy hand sketches may be submitted as scanned copies or may be dropped off at the front desk of the Acadia Recreation Complex located at 240 90 Avenue SE by the contest deadline.

2. All submissions whether by email or in-person must include: the full name(s) of the person(s) who designed the logo, mailing address, phone number, and email address of the individual submitting the entry.

3. No more than 3 entries may be submitted by any one individual or group of individuals. Each submission must be sent in a separate email or on a separate sheet of paper when submitting a hard-copy.

4. Entries must conform to the Submission Guidelines set out below. Entries which fail to do so will be rejected.

5. We will attempt to acknowledge all entries within one week of receipt; however, we cannot be responsible for entries or responses lost in e-mail.

6. There is no fee to enter the contest.

Submission Guidelines

The purpose of the contest is to design a logo for the Acadia Community Association (ACA). The logo must be appropriate for a professional business setting.

The logo will be used online, in print, and on merchandise. Flexibility is a key requirement, including the need to resize easily and to look good in black and white, as well as in colour. The final version of the logo will need to be suitable for high quality printing. It should be visually appealing on both small (as small as 2cm x 2cm) and large scales.

The logo’s design must include some or all of the following elements determined by Acadia community residents:

  • Represent Acadia as being a very welcoming community that is safe, vibrant and inclusive.  Acadia is a community that is in transition, honouring the past as well as looking to the future.

  • incorporate the following elements in some way:

  • trees

  • an inclusive and diverse family/community

  • bungalow(s);

  • contain the following wording: “Acadia Community Association”.

  • use the following colors: blue, green and yellow.  White or light grey may be used as well.

This image should not be photographic (see below for information on graphic formats), and must not contain any other text besides that required above.

Designers are welcome to submit no more than two (2) variants of the logo.

Due to the requirements for high quality printing and resizing, entries must be submitted in scalable vector graphic format PSD or AI. We advise against the use of halftones and gradients. Colour in this version must be CMYK, no spot colors. JPGs/JPEGs 1000 pixels square of the logo are requested so that entries can be posted to the ACA website without the need for conversion.

The limit on attachment sizes for our email is 10Mb. If your submission exceeds this size, even after compression, please send the images individually and note clearly in your emails that you are doing so.

To reinforce, each entry must consist of two (2) files: the basic logo (PSD or AI) and JPG/JPEG or PNG format. We are able to handle most common file compression formats.

In the event a hard-copy design is submitted, a representative of the ACA will work directly with the entrant to create a digital version of the submitted design to adhere to the requirements above.

Prizes

Subject to the legal requirements outlined above, the winning design will be announced at our AGM in September. The winning contestant will receive:

1. A prize valued at $100. This prize remains the same regardless of the size of the team submitting the winning entry. The prize cannot be exchanged for cash.

2. Some “I heart Acadia” swag.

3. The bragging rights to identify themselves as the ACA logo designer.

Judging and Selection of Winner

1. Finalist entries will be selected by the 2023 ACA board members and select charter/lifetime members. Entries will be judged on their visual appeal, adherence to the concept prompting the contest, quality of design, and ease of reproduction for the purposes stated above.

2. The ACA membership will select the final winning design among the finalist entries presented at the September 2023 Annual General Meeting.

2. The ACA reserves the right not to select a winner if, at its sole discretion, no suitable entries are received.

3. The ACA reserves the right to disqualify any entrant or entry at its sole discretion. No correspondence shall be entered into.

4. The winner will be required to sign an agreement assigning all ownership of the logo to the ACA.

1. All entrants affirm their submissions are their own original work, have not been copied from others or from previous designs, including their own, and do not violate the intellectual property rights of any other person or entity.

2. All entries will become the sole property of the ACA and may be used for any ACA purposes, including, but not limited to, display on websites, business cards, letterhead, posters, and other materials.

3. The ACA shall have the right to adapt, edit, modify, or otherwise use the winning submission in part or in its entirety in whatever manner it deems appropriate.

4. The ACA reserves the right to choose not to use the winning entry as described in these contest guidelines.

5. The ACA reserves the right to use any other entry for promotional or business purposes in the future.
